A legacy is a mark of what an individual has left in the world, hopefully one of the richness of their life, their accomplishments and impact. It is a mirror of how we have lived our lives.
A legacy gift
A legacy gift, also known as a Bequest, is about acknowledging your personal legacy through making a specific gift in your Will to continue your goodness through supporting future generations, be they family members or specific not for profit organisations. Legacy gifts (Bequest) may be in the form of property, monetary gifts, stocks and bonds or personal possessions.
How do I leave a gift in my will?
Every adult needs to have a Will no matter what age they are. A Will is an important legal document that ensures your final wishes are protected and followed. If you do not have a Will, consider establishing one as you will need one to create a Bequest as well as ensure your estate is managed the way you want. There are solicitors who specialise in gifts and Wills. You may want to contact your state legal institute for a list of these specialists.
Within your Will, a Bequest is an instruction that reserves all or part of your estate for specific beneficiaries, usually with personal meaning to you. It is best that you discuss what you want to do with your solicitor.
If you wish to leave a legacy gift (bequest) to the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Foundation, the wording below may be used when preparing your bequest, after you have decided which area of the Foundation you would like your gift to support.
Specific Gift
I give to the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Foundation, ABN 55 745 393 419, of 1 Napier Close, Deakin, ACT 2600 the sum of $[amount] for its general purposes. I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.
Percentage of Estate
I give to the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Foundation, ABN 55 745 393 419, of 1 Napier Close, Deakin, ACT 2600, [percentage]% of my estate for its general purposes. I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.
Residual Bequest
I give to the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Foundation, ABN 55 745 393 419, of 1 Napier Close, Deakin, ACT 2600, the residue (or [percentage]% of the residue) of my estate for its general purposes.
